Arm warmers on a late-August afternoon

  • Miles: 30
  • Route: Minooka Park
  • Weather: Sun, wind 12-15, cool, 67
  • 2009 Total Miles: 2,583

Honestly, the weather is crazy. Tonight we may hit a record low, dipping to around 40. Today, 60's, but at least the sun came out. We headed back from the lake house early so that my wife could drive to Adams-Friendship to visit her dad who had a knee surgery last week.

She left.

I rode.

Being back on the bike the first time since my solo century five days earlier felt good despite the insane weather for this time of year. I saw several riders wearing wind jackets in the middle of a sunny afternoon in August. Me? Arm warmers, as you could see from the post title here.

I watched the first full stage of the Vuelta this morning on line, and that got my psyched to ride. I guess that fact and the rest combined to add up to me feeling great out there today. I was all over the bike and covered the hills of the Minooka Park ride like I had never covered them before. Although this was only my fifth time riding this route this season. it was in fact a PR for ave. speed at 16.5 today.

I have NEVER seen the dog park so full! Man, there were dogs everywhere up in there. There must have been 100 people there!

On the way out I was suddenly whacked in the mouth pretty hard by what I believe was a rather large dragonfly. Holy cow, one inch lower and that thing would have been in my mouth!

Anyway, I felt strong the entire time today. When I felt I was letting up a bit on the path back I would just think about all the crap I ate and drank over the the birthday party weekend at the lake house and that inspired me to burn off a little more of that fat and calories. I do things there on a party day that I would never even think about eating or drinking at home....oh well, that's enjoying life I guess. As long as I do not make a habit of Doritoes, chips and dip, red velvet cake and rum and soda and beer I should be ok!
