'recursive' race recon ride

  • ROUTE / MILES: Whitnall Crit, 1 lap, 26.5 miles
  • TIME / AVE SPEED / HR 1:44/15.2/136
  • WEATHER: Sun, WIND, 15-25, 50-55
  • '08 Miles/Total hip miles 321.5

I did a lap at my Whitnall Crit course today in the wind, just to check out the course where the WCA racers will be doing battle a week from this Saturday.

My bud 'recursive' who posts here from time to time, will be racing Cat 3 on that day and I'll be there cheering him and the Endeavour team on.

I did a little recon today...you know that sharp right-hander that I was practicing on last season...right and then up a steep little hill to another right-hander....well...at the top of that hill you are gonna want to stay RIGHT. If you drift into the left lane on that turn you will find a minefield of potholes! Maybe they'll try to patch that in the next week, but maybe not.

As for me today, the wind, at 15-20-25 is pretty much a factor. I felt OK, but was real glad that I grabbed a wind jacket on the way out. I wasn't going to but changed my mind at the last second. The wind was cold...temp 50 when I left.

My legs were screaming out as I went into the wind on the last four blocks of the ride. Oh well, that's what getting in shape is all about now. No pain no gain.

4 Feedback.

Hey Phil,

Yea same here, been doing some reps on the Whitnall Park Crit route as well. I am riding for Endeavour as well this season (my first season). I am riding Cat5 of course. I raced in Madison this past Sunday, Cat5/Citizen and Cat4/5 respectively. I think I finished last in both races. No crashes, or mechanicals, but the cold and the wind were hard to overcome. Once the peloton pulled ahead and the attacks started - it was all over for me.

Have a few more races before the Whitnall crit, maybe I can learn and apply the few tactics I’ve learned.

Cordially,

recursive is Tom Theisen, cat 3 for Endeavour.

Thanks for the heads up on the pot holes. I'll make sure not to shift chainrings during the race this year.

I think Psimet may be racing the 4/5 too. No word from cromulent.

See you there, all.

And the following day, I've got both a BFNIC ride and a Sheboygan race lined up. What's up with the BFNIC hip?
..............

NOT SURE MY FRIEND. I AM OUT OF THE LOOP AND JUST TRYING TO GET MY FAT ARSE BACK IN SHAPE OUT ON THE ROAD ON MY OWN FOR ABOUT A MONTH OR SO BEFORE I DO ANY GROUP RIDES.
