The 2008 season of cycling.
--"Mama, the Italians are coming!"

Back-to-back rides outside for the first time this year. I took the same route despite the snow, just to see if there was any melting progress. Still some cyclocross, but less today. Instead of yestrerday's 14 stops on that early section of MUP, I was down to just five stops today.
Out on the road I was reminded in a few ways about dealing with being back outside again.
At a couple of four-way stops I had slowed down...another car was going the other way, and they waited long enough to allow me to go through without stopping. When this happens, I say give 'em a highball...a tip of the head or a wave. Thank them. Be a good samaritan representing cyclists.
Later there was a large deer along the side of the road. Bold too...hardly took a step away from the curb as I passed. As a car came up from the other way I signaled with my arm by pointing back and giving the slow down motion to the driver...just a heads up that a deer was coming up.
I was startled later in the ride on another MUP section, where I had to slow down to go through some puddles. Suddenly a voice behind me said something about the weather being decent. I saw a front wheel to my left, but that is as much as I ever saw. Since I was in front, I knew he was back there and made sure to signal him when a walker was ahead of us. It's the right thing to do. Work together out there and be respectful.
Nothing pretty out there, but miles...and that's a good thing this spring.
Been there done that with motorists
